Dr. Shive is a board-certified dermatologist, fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon, and laser and cosmetic specialist. She prides herself on delivering high quality, individually-tailored, compassionate care.

She completed her undergraduate education at the University of Pennsylvania, majoring in art history and minoring in biology. During her undergraduate years, she did research projects on neural networks and the use of photodynamic therapy to treat an aggressive form of lung cancer, called mesothelioma. Her senior thesis project on renaissance art won a university-wide prize, as well as a departmental prize for best thesis.

She went on to complete a Fulbright fellowship in Malaysia, where she taught English at an all-girls Islamic school in rural Malaysia, and spent time learning about cultural practices surrounding birth and the delivery of obstetric care in the area. The experience inspired her interest in public health and health policy and when she returned to the United States, she moved to Washington, DC to work for a health policy think tank and for the Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR), under the guidance of former Assistant Surgeon General, Susan Blumenthal.

She attended medical school at the prestigious University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and completed her Master degree in Public Health at Harvard University with a concentration in health policy. Upon graduating from medical school, she completed her dermatology residency at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). During residency, she remained actively engaged in cutting edge research, publishing several scientific manuscripts and specialty book chapters. She received a Women’s Dermatologic Society Mentorship award, which enabled her to travel to London, England to study dermatology and clinical guideline development at the St. John’s institute of Dermatology. She also won an American Academy of Dermatology award to work and provide dermatologic care to the underserved population in Gabarone, Botswana.

Upon completing her dermatology training, she underwent an additional year of sub-specialty fellowship training at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). Her fellowship focused on the surgical treatment and management of high risk skin cancers, complex reconstruction, cutting-edge laser surgery, and the advanced practice of cosmetics and aesthetics.

Today, Dr. Shive works at UCI and has office locations in Irvine and Tustin. She has a broad practice with an emphasis on the management of high risk skin cancer. She currently runs a high-risk skin cancer clinic for transplant patients and regularly attends UCI’s monthly interdisciplinary tumor boards to discuss particularly complex or difficult cases. She also has a robust cosmetics practice where she emphasizes restoration of natural features for a more youthful appearance. She treats a wide range of aesthetic concerns, including but not limited to scarring, skin discoloration, wrinkles, and loose skin.
